Actually, hearing it read at the radio reading service for the blind where you work...and being stunned. My text is blue today because a nice lady, who encouraged me and gave me confidence when I started my own business died on New Year's Eve, a day before she was to turn 53.
She was the type of person who would be taken advantage of by her clients and her friends. As a result, she seldom got paid in advance, let alone, within a few days of submitting an invoice. And, sadly
her financial health got in the way of her being able to take care of her physical health. She didn't have health insurance. But, she had a history of heart trouble. She didn't complain about any problems to friends. Even her closest allies were shocked to hear about her death. I suppose she didn't go to doctors because money was tight.
Friends say that the coroner determined that she died instantaneously from heart failure in the middle of the night.

The police were called after friends and her sister couldn't get her on the phone for over a day.
Her obituary was one of the nicest ones I've ever read; full of quotes from a virtual Who's Who of the political world. Yet, this friend of mine was very private, very hard working and very proud. I'm sure if she asked for help from somebody she would have gotten it. Now help is being offered post-mortem.
Sad.
So terribly, terribly sad.
