I just read a post of a guy in Romania.
I don't know if it's because he's eastern European, like many of my relatives before me, but I understand his angst. (I guess I can describe it as angst.)
He's an alarmist-but prefers to call himself a realist. For instance; they've got a bit of a bird flu problem over there. And, he wonders when the virus will mutate into a form that will be transmitted human-to-human. Now, this guy is college age, and would rather blog than study. (I know as I skimmed his postings.) His English (and he posts in English) is comparable to any American's of his age, complete with misspellings, albeit he misspells words that are at a higher grade level than some U-S kids I know use.
But, I dared to give matronly advice to this eastern European kid. (I’m not used to calling people dude all the time. It took me most of the 1980’s to shake-off the habit of calling people “man.” Yes, even the women. Let’s sing, “talkin’ ‘bout my gen-er-a-tion.”) I told the kid to study the system and the things that his teachers want him to until he’s actually old enough, or has gotten enough experience, to change the system.
I suppose I’m tired of hearing complaints from the kids on my block. Why can’t they just do what they are told?
I think the blog was “waiting for death.” Try to find it. And, let me know what you think.
