Greenstone Media

GREENSTONE MEDIA is preparing to close its doors as of AUGUST 17, unless other arrangements can be put into play. Word is that VP/Operations JIM LAMARCA is working the phones and alerting affiliates as you read this.

Here's my chance to show my radio roots. Yes, this blogger had an 18 year career behind the mic and behind the scenes in radio. In fact--confession time, I'm writing this blog as I'm running board for a radio reading service for the blind. I'm a radio fan.

I think women enjoy being mentored by other women. Talk that was meant for women needed more content, and veteran voices, that is, women who have more experience than the average 20-35 year old guy/dude DJ or giggling girl-like sidekick.

I want to hear from an older and wiser person that I should do something: listen, write, read, try, consider. I have no patience for idle gossip about people who, as my mother said, “don’t listen to stories about me and don’t care about me.”

Women enjoy hearing about new ways to take care of themselves, and others. Women also enjoy the raunchier side of life—the “Sex and the City” type of discussions that we have amongst ourselves, complete with knowing smirks and glances.

It takes deep pockets to market and whet the appetites of young listeners, to condition them that content created exclusively for them is something they can develop the habit of seeking. And, it takes women with deep pockets to sponsor this type of talk and to inspire that talent keep it fresh, with surprises, for the listeners.

A trade e-letter, called AllAccess reports If the network itself doesn't survive, there is a good chance that a number of its shows may still be around. I hope so. So many folks in radio, listeners, and professionals, have complained that new talent is hard to find, both on and off the air. (Talent and their support staff.) I would hate for this conduit for on and off air talent to be permanently “benched.”
